"Fintechs need to reinvent themselves..."
The number of fintechs in Brazil has increased exponentially, as is the case in any market niche that emerges as promising. In the last two years alone, 230 "fintechs" have emerged, and today they total 550 fintechs, companies that combine technology with banking products, according to the Fintech Mining Report 2019 study, carried out by Distrito, a holding company for businesses focused on innovation.
"Fintechs need to reinvent themselves. They emerged with the demand to use the banking platform to add services to customers, but they fell into the trap of thinking they could be better than banks by providing cheaper or "zero-fee" services and ended up competing with each other," says Feriani.
